Menchie Alunan-Vitente paints the things she loves to look at: lotus ponds, blossoming branches, and the sea at the edge of the day. She works in thick acrylic and gold leaf, building each petal with a palette knife until it stands off the canvas. Every piece is finished with her small gold seal.
Painting is one of several things her hands are always doing. She is a musician, a baker and a jewelry artist, and a mom, and all of it shows up in the work: the rhythm of a repeated bloom, the patience of a slow bake, the care of setting a stone. She is one of eight artists in the group exhibit The Journey.
